Southampton Town’s Plastic Bag Education Task Force will hold three special events on Saturday, April 26, as part of the re-launch of the municipality’s “A Greener Southampton—The Solution Is In The Bag” initiative. The goals of the program are to increase recycling, reduce the utilization of plastic bags and encourage retailers to offer eco-friendly options to customers.
The first two events will take place between 10 a.m. and noon at the King Kullen off Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton while the third event will be held at the Stop & Shop on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
Shoppers and merchants are invited to sign a pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle their plastic bags. Local students who participated in the town’s “A Greener Southampton” poster contest will be recognized with certificates at these events.
In addition, task force members will participate in the Westhampton Beach Earth Day Festival that runs from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Village Green in the Village of Westhampton Beach.
