The Southampton girls track and field team is just one win away from winning the program’s first league title since 1977 after beating Hampton Bays, 90-60, in a dual meet at home on Monday.
The Lady Mariners improved to 6-0 in League VIII, and will be going for the undefeated season and league crown on in their final dual meet of the regular season, at Stony Brook (3-2), on Monday, May 5.
Results from both the Hampton Bays and Stony Brook meets will be in next week’s edition.
The Southampton boys track team fell to 4-2 in League VIII after a 75-66 loss at second-place Hampton Bays on Monday. The Mariners, sitting in third place behind the Baymen and undefeated Port Jefferson, will close out the dual meet season at home against Stony Brook (3-2) on May 5.
The East Hampton softball team improved to 5-8 in League IV with a 10-7 win at winless Elwood/John Glenn on Monday. The Lady Bonackers used an eight-run fourth inning to take control of the game. Freshman Dylan Schleider pitched and got her first varsity win for the Lady Bonackers. Maddie Schenck had a two-run double in the fourth, one of three hits on the day for her, and Avery Balnis had a two-run triple, also in the fourth.
The East Hampton girls track team won its second straight dual meet in League VI, beating Bellport 83-58 on the road on Monday to improve to 2-2-1 on the year.
