In Sagaponack, One Seat And One Candidate

There will be just one name on the ballot for Sagaponack School Board this year. Brian Villante is running unopposed for the seat being vacated by 36-year veteran board member Fred Wilford, who chose not to run again.

Mr. Villante, 45, is a father of two sons, one of graduated from the Sagaponack School and another who is currently in the district’s third grade. A native of Manhasset, Mr. Villante and his wife, Treacy, an East Hampton native, moved to Sagaponack in 1997.

As a board member, Mr. Villante said his focus would be on maintaining the one-room schoolhouse’s character, educational quality and the rare opportunity it offers for children from the area.

“I’d like to make sure that people are aware there is quality beyond quality in education in our district,” he said. “I think this is such a great educational program and opportunity for our kids and kids from outside the district, and I don’t want to see anything change or go away.”

The Sagaponack School Board has three members; the terms are three years.

Voting for the proposed budget as well as the candidate will be held at the Sagaponack School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20.—MICHAEL WRIGHT
