AMAGANSETT SCHOOL BOARD
The Amagansett School District has three candidates running unopposed for the Board of Education.
Patrick R. Bistrian
Mr. Bistrian, an East Hampton native, began serving on the School Board in 2005. This will be his fourth term. Since 2011, Mr. Bistrian has been reelected every year as vice president of the board. He has a degree in economics from the University of Tampa. Mr. Bistrian now works at his family’s business, Bistrian Gravel, in East Hampton. He has two children that have gone through the Amagansett School District and one still enrolled.
“I don’t really have a platform,” said Mr. Bistrian. “I’m certainly there to serve the kids but also there to serve the taxpayers in the district. Our school is very solid, high performing, and the staff remains constant. They do an excellent job there and we have a fantastic school for teachers and taxpayers alike. It’s the focal point of Amagansett and it’s a very special place.”
Phelan Wolf is an Associate Broker at Brown Harris Stevens, located in Amagansett. He has a background in practicing real estate, zoning and planning law and is a former assistant town attorney for East Hampton. This will be Mr. Wolf’s second term on the board. He was first elected in 2011, beating incumbent runner Vincent Vigorita. Mr. Wolf, an East Hampton native, has a third-grader and a fifth-grader enrolled in the school district. He and his wife Kammy, originally from Springs, have lived in Amagansett for six years.
“For me, since the first time I ran, nothing has changed,” said Mr. Wolf. “Amagansett school is a great school and I’d like to help it continue to be as good as it’s always been. I’m not an issue kind of guy; I don’t have a particular issue or agenda. It’s a very successful school and I hope to be able to continue to help it be successful.”
Patrick Bistrian III
Patrick Bistrian III is a lifelong Amagansett resident and a first cousin to Patrick Bistrian. His father, Patrick Bistrian Jr., served 37 years on the Amagansett school board. In December 2013, Mr. Bistrian, III filled the seat of long-standing board member John Hossenlopp, after Mr. Hossenlopp resigned.
“I was born and raised in Amagansett,” said Mr. Bistrian, III. “Myself, my family, sisters, brothers all attended grade school in Amagansett. I’ve got three children of my own, two in the Amagansett school now, the third in middle school going into high school in East Hampton. I want to give back. It’s been very good to my family and families of Amagansett. If I could contribute and give back, this is how I’d like to do it.”
