The East Hampton girls track team enjoyed one of its best regular seasons in quite some time and that success has carried over to the postseason. The Lady Bonackers finished eighth out of 19 teams at the Division III Championships at Connetquot High School on May 19 and 21, setting four new school records in the process.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Gabbie McKay, Amanda Calabrese, Cecilia Blowe and Allura Leggard placed second in a new school record of 51.63 seconds. Hannah Jungck placed sixth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:48.66, smashing her previous record of 8:07.04. Jungck was also part of the 4×800-meter relay team that finished in a new school record of 9:56.36. Liana Paradiso, Alyssa Bahel and Dana Cebulski made up the rest of the team.
Amanda Calabrese recorded the fourth and final school record for East Hampton. She placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.88 seconds, besting her own record that she set last season.
“The girls did a phenomenal job,” East Hampton head coach Yani Cuesta said. “Four school records all broken on the same day—very exciting.”
Gabbie McKay was another point scorer for the Lady Bonackers. She finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds. Dana Cebulski scored two points by finishing fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:24.35. Liana Paradiso ran to a personal best in the same race, crossing the finish line in 2:30.24. Christine Malecki finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 85 feet 9 inches.
Allura Leggard finished the 200-meter dash in a personal best 28.09 seconds. The 4×400-meter relay team also finished in a season’s best 4:29.23. Jungck, Wylee Musnicki, Valentina Sanchez and Sadie Ward made up that team. Blowe reached a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet 9½ inches. And Taliya Hayes threw a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet 4¼ inches.
Cuesta was unable to confirm earlier this week who would attend the Section XI Individual Championships, otherwise known as the state qualifier, at Port Jefferson High School this Friday and Saturday. Friday’s events start at 3 p.m.; noon is the start time for Saturday.
The Bonackers totaled 13 points to finish 12th out of 18 teams at their Division III Championships, held on May 20 and last Friday at Longwood High School.
Erik Engstrom took the highest placement for East Hampton. He finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:03.91. Adam Cebulski took fourth place in the 1,600-meter run, in 4:36.80. Thomas Paradiso placed sixth in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:03.47.
