Westhampton Beach Girls Come Up Short At State Qualifier

The spring season came to an end for the Westhampton Beach girls track team at the Section XI Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday at Port Jefferson High School. The Lady Hurricanes had a number of athletes at the meet but none were able to qualify for the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The boys were not represented at this year’s state qualifier.

Keira Kelly took home the highest placement for the Lady Canes. She finished third in the high jump by reaching 5 feet 2 inches. The 4×400-meter relay team of Lauren Lorefice, Grace Gilbakian, Jenny Jordan and Nora Murphy placed fifth in 4:04. Lorefice also competed in the finals of the 400-meter dash and finished eighth in 61.32 seconds.

Lucy DiBenedetto finished 17th out of 24 throwers in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet 8¾ inches. Sarena Choi placed 14th out of 24 competitors in the triple jump after leaping 34 feet 8 inches. Sabrina Mason placed 12th in the 1,500-meter race walk in 7:21.77.
