Last week Marybeth Pacilio’s class celebrated the end of their research and bookmaking unit with a publishing party. Students shared the unique books they made such as haiku matchbox books, accordion memoir books and other handsewn books with original stories. The older students had presented their research on parts of the history of bookmaking all week. Some of the topics included the Guttenburg printing press, parchment and papyrus.
The same evening students in Julie Fanelli-Denny’s class shared their inventions at an Invention Fair. Students displayed their inventions including the steps that led to the final products. They wrote press releases and in collaboration with Liz Bertsch’s filmmakers they videotaped commercials for their products. It was the culmination of many months’ work.
