Raynor Country Day School Salutes The Troops

Students at the Raynor Country Day School in Speonk learned about the Congressional Medal of Honor and saluted the troops Monday morning to kick off their annual Field Day festivities. The marching band paraded around the gym while students, teachers, parents and guests from the Eastport American Legion Post 1545 sang patriotic songs. Dan Murphy, the father of U.S. Navy Seal Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who lived in Patchogue, was killed in Afghanistan and posthumously presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor, then answered questions about his son and shared stories about how he stood up to bullies when he was in school. The book and movie, “Lone Survivor,” were based on Lt. Murphy’s service. ALEXA GORMAN PHOTOS
