West Roundup: Hampton Bays Gymnastics Picks Up First Victory Of The Season


The Hampton Bays girls gymnastics team split its first two League III meets of the season last week. The Lady Baymen picked up their first victory of the season, 138-119.70, at home over Copiague on Thursday, October 1, after losing, 134.25-123.05, at home to North Babylon on September 28. The Lady Baymen are 1-1 in League III meets, 1-5 overall.

The Westhampton Beach girls soccer team ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory at Comsewogue on September 30. Combined with a forfeit by Amityville on Friday, it marks the first time this season the Lady Hurricanes have won back-to-back games. Amityville forfeited the season a few weeks ago.

Hailey Daleo scored to break a 1-1 tie in the first half and give Westhampton Beach its first league victory—not by forfeit—this season against Comsewogue. Jill Mapley scored 10 minutes into the game before Jenna Steigman tied it for the Lady Warriors 10 minutes later. Emily Wichard made 16 saves in the victory for the Lady Canes, who are 3-4 in League V, 4-5 overall.

The Westhampton Beach boys soccer team split its League V games last week. After losing, 1-0, at Islip on September 29, the Hurricanes came back with a 2-1 victory at home over Rocky Point on Thursday, October 1.

Trailing 1-0 late in last week’s game against Rocky Point, Jon Mestre scored off a free kick from 25 yards to tie the game with 4:45 remaining in regulation. Then, with 8:50 remaining in the second overtime, Jared Percoco scored the game winner on a header from a corner kick from Jay Brezinski. It was the ninth one-goal game out of 11 games this season for the Canes (3-4 League V, 7-4 overall).

The Hampton Bays boys soccer team lost, 1-0, at East Hampton on September 29. Jorge Naula scored the game winner in the second half for the Bonackers. David Vargas made seven saves in the loss. Hampton Bays is 2-3-1 in League VI, 2-5-1 overall.

The Lady Baymen lost, 4-0, at home to Mount Sinai on September 30, then lost, 1-0, at Miller Place on Saturday. Hampton Bays is 0-7 in League VI, 0-8 overall.


The Westhampton Beach boys volleyball team won its first match of the season, 3-2, at Center Moriches on September 29. The Canes lost, 3-0, at home to Hauppauge on Thursday, October 1. Westhampton Beach is 1-6 with 73.05 power points.
